    GenerationExile: Temporary shelter to techno-nomads?

What would be the safest way to provide some shelter?

I feel the best way i can help some of those that have left their home, by choice or not, is to open my home as at least a temporary retreat. As of right now my home is large, and could fit more than myself. Is this a good idea, and if so, what would be the safest way to assist humans like this?

This is a good idea, and worth building upon. The primary issue is one of trust - opening up your home to a stranger can be a risky proposition. What would be useful is a distributed reputation system, so you could see people that have vouched for a nomad seeking shelter (and vice versa).

Actually, the primary issue is danger of disease transmittal, or having someone steal your seed corn, and leaving you no chance to survive or keep your family or Core going till you can form a new Enclave. You aren\\\'t going to get any help from a Govt., (unless you are a Peacekeeper) Best choice, until the PlasticBacteria get to your location is to build solo and Core tents to lure helpers to help you with a citadel or farm. More help=more security=more chance to attract skilled Medics=more collaboration power=higher trading status see this for structure help http://www.shelter-systems.com/

So the best idea is to have a sort of campground in the backyard, with strong security and some safe health measure in on your person?

Josh: See the Trustnet superstruct for an implementation of what you suggest. And join it...;)

A fair trade lodging system could work well- making people feel they have something worth offering, and something to loose, is a good way to protect a feeling of belonging to a society, even a transient, extended and mobile society. Just as, on a small scale, we have semi formal networks of reciprocal 'couch surfers', so we can, with some light 'struct'ing, create a culture of shared value around the worth oof a visitors contribution. The essence of 'visitorness' is distinct valuable, but effemeral- visitors are like cut flowers- a boon to a house for three days, then they stink. Understanding what that transistion is, how it works, and what a valuable, but still essentially transitory, longer stay visit arrangement might be is worth exploring. A visitor may need to learn how to remain welcome. And though we seek a stable and harmonious relationship between hosts and visitors, we must recognise that we are pushing against some core human psychologies.

Meeware....I think I heard about something like this back in 2007....a group a college students who started a website for couch surfing....there was a eBay-like feedback network...to report on the bad eggs. I would really like to see you create a SUperstruct about this!
