At Flag Mountain, we face many challenges.  My challenge has been how to educate children, you are multilingual.  How do I ensure that they do not lose their identity? My best solution has been to teach them what I can while they teach me about their language, and culture.  I teach the students a common language to ensure that they can communicate with each other.  The students who are multilingual are asked to learn the common language. Do you have any better solutions to how to teach a diverse population of students while in a constant changing environment?

Flag Mountain Curriculum

 

The teaching at Flag Mountain adapts accordingly to the circumstances affecting the community.  As the Director of Education, my duty has been to create a learning environment in a constant changing environment.  I face many challenges but I always find a solution.  My curriculum for the students is solely based on the needs of the Flag Mountain community. 

 

To teach the students a common language

To find safe places to teach the students among the chaos

To teach them survival skills

To teach them how to write and read the codes and messages that the community puts out

To ensure that they know the symptoms of the ReDS virus

To form a student community

To ensure that they never forget their past and cultural identity

 

This is my mission for the children of the Flag Mountain refugees
