Fallen Leaves...

Hundreds of leaves make up one tree. One tree puts forth into the world hundreds of leaves.
2019Beverly

As I walked along the trail in the woods the fallen leaves of the recent windstorm made a crunching noise beneath my feet... Crunch - Crunch - Crunch

The sound became soothing; my mind began to drift from the everyday troubles...

In spring the leaves are just buds of hope, and over the summer they grow and come into themselves, in the fall they hold tight, then during the windstorms of the later fall and winter many leaves leave the security of their homes to venture out on their own - coasting on the breath of the wind. Many travel far away and are never seen again; others stay close to home as if comforted by homes sanction. Then there are the ones that do not let go. They hold fast through all the seasons until finally they take one last sobering breath and fall towards the ground.

Hundreds of leaves make up one tree. One tree puts forth into the world hundreds of leaves.

What if each leaf of every tree could go forward carrying hope to whoever happened across it?

The idea began to grow.

I bent and collected a handful of leaves and hurried home. It's worth a try I think to myself.

Once home I set to work. Carefully printing out each word soon I have a handful of leaves with the simple word of HOPE printed on each.

Yes this would work to get the message out -- but will they be noticed.... I head into the back room where the old craft supplies are tucked away. I again go to work... much better.

Tonight I will set to work in creating more. I want to have a bagful by tomorrow.

Tomorrow I will head out... into town... and put these leaves where they can be found by those that need them the most. Perhaps, just perhaps this simple leaf will pass on the message of Hope... perhaps; just perhaps this simple leaf will fall into the hands of someone who needs it the most. Perhaps this simple leaf will give someone the strength to go forward into another day. A gift from nature - a gift of hope!

I will place them with gentle care one by one in different locations. On a park bench, on the sidewalk, the playground, anywhere that looks at the time to be a likely spot.

Perhaps one day I will hear about a leaf found, a leaf of hope. But even if I don’t I will know that I did something – something that could make a difference!

Take the Fallen Leaves Challenge;

Take a walk out to your yard or a nearby park

Collect leaves that have fallen

Print or paint the word HOPE on each one

Distribute the leaves around your community where people will find them

Smile because you have made a difference!

*Note this is a good activity for young and old alike*
