Religion v Simulation

God from the Machine or Infernal Machines Full of Innocent Souls
deanfrz

As scientific and commercial simulations of society become more and more realistic an interesting delimma presents itself. With a near perfect computer simualtion of reality possible, when should humans begin handing control over to the simulations?

Agents of religion react violently to the proponents of computer guidance, branding the machines false gods and the machinations of Satan, especially when they advocate birth control and other policies that clash with religions.

A battle begins shaping up, with a technological elite squaring off with the masses of humanity in the other corner. A select few have the knowledge and capacity to help the many. A many who increasingly seem as if they do not want to be saved. Some have even begun to question the morality of such simulations, begging the question: If the simulated are accurate enough to have crude emotions and judgments, do they have rights?

If a mass luddite movement arises seeking to ban such ubiquitus simulations, can an anti-technology crusade (a Butlerian Jihad of sorts) be far behind?
